Campaign Director—Earth Quaker Action Team

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

Campaign Director—Full Time

Job Description

Earth Quaker Action Team is a grassroots, nonviolent action group including Quakers and people of diverse beliefs, who join with millions of people around the world fighting for a just and sustainable economy.

After winning a 5-year campaign that pushed PNC Bank to divest from mountaintop removal coal mining, we’ve embarked on a new campaign, called “Power Local Green Jobs.” The campaign pressures Philadelphia’s energy company, PECO, to expand solar power — and do so in a way that creates jobs and builds wealth in marginalized communities.

Our organization is unlike many others you may be familiar with. We are a grassroots and exceptionally friendly organization, keeping nonviolent direct action at the heart of our campaigns. We value building deep relationships and pushing each other to grow. Our campaign, its strategy, and the tactics we choose are informed, guided by, and led by our active volunteers. Major decisions are approved by the Board.

As the full-time Campaign Director, you will join our organization one year into an ambitious corporate campaign, right when our target has started to respond. While volunteers plan actions, lead fundraising, nurture ally relationships, and build capacity with new volunteers, we need a Campaign Director to hold the big picture, make strategy recommendations, and ensure cohesion and effectiveness among our committees and talented leaders.

This job might be perfect for you if you:

  • Wake up excited to challenge huge companies, fight for economic justice, or campaign to save our planet;
  • Have a record of campaigning strategically and winning big, bold victories;
  • Can hold the big picture of a project with many moving parts;
  • Love to work with enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers of all ages;
  • Are a strong written and verbal communicator;
  • Are able to work across lines of race and class to build alliances;
  • Have 5+ years of leadership experience in issue campaigns;
  • Are excited to do things with a small budget and a lot of volunteers;
  • Appreciate supervising a small team of paid staff to delegate and build power; and
  • Believe in nonviolent direct action as a means to create change.

A strong applicant might have a few of the following as well (but please don’t feel like you need to check all or even any of these boxes to apply):

  • A wide network of community, faith, and civic groups and leaders in Philadelphia;
  • Experience working in senior leadership of corporations;
  • Experience running corporate-focused campaigns;
  • An understanding of Quaker values and culture; and
  • Communications skills, from media work to web design.

Location: Philadelphia-based, home office
Reports to: The Board of Directors
Salary: $55,000

Benefits: 4 weeks paid vacation + 10 paid sick days + stipend of $500/mo for health insurance. We hope this will increase over time, as fundraising increases and more staff are brought on board. As a very small organization, we cannot easily get health insurance for staff at a cost we can afford. Therefore, we have chosen to provide a stipend of up to $500 that an employee can use to purchase health insurance through the state health insurance exchange.

EQAT believes that in order to truly protect our planet and make a just transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in a way that advances racial and economic justice for low-income communities and communities of color, we need people from all backgrounds. Because of this, we’d especially like to encourage people who come from communities that are often unacknowledged in the environmental justice movement — communities of color, women, people with disabilities, and others — to bring your experience to this role. EQAT does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or religion.

If you have questions about the role, please email jobs@eqat.org and we’d be happy to set up a time for you to speak with one of our Board members or active volunteers.

To apply, please use the form below (via Recruiterbox) to send us a cover letter that specifically emphasizes why you think you’d be excellent in this role, as well as a resume. Applications are due June 5th at 11:59pm Pacific Time.
