Coalition for Peace Action Seeking Full-Time Assistant Director

The Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA), a grass-roots citizens group working in central and southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania, seeks a full-time (40 hours/week) Assistant Director to work out of its Princeton headquarters. The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director and Steering Committee (Board of Directors) to oversee and implement programs advancing the Coalition’s priorities: global abolition of nuclear weapons, a peace economy, and a halt to weapons trafficking.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with Executive Director and Peace Education Committee to plan and implement annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace; and other educational forums, talks, videos, etc. in various community settings.
  • Update CFPA main web site, as well as those of its projects, such as Interfaith Network on Drone Warfare; assist with E-alerts to listserves of CFPA supporters; and implement social media for CFPA and its projects, such as Ceasefire NJ and Interfaith Drone Network, to provide mutually reinforcing communication across all media platforms.
  • Recruit and work with volunteers to oversee mailings of newsletters, fundraising appeals, and the staffing of events (registration, meals, set-up, clean up, etc.).
  • Design and Desk-top publish newsletters, fact sheets, and other literature.
  • Oversee maintenance of computerized database of members and supporters, using volunteers if possible. Must have computer competency. (Microsoft office Suite, Outlook, etc.)
  • Make phone calls to renew CFPA members. Arrangements can be made to do these calls from home to save time and expense, if that’s preferable. Interns and volunteers may also assist with this task.
  • Work with other CFPA campaigns and projects, such as No Wars, No Warming, as appropriate and feasible.
  • Must possess high level organizational and multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and logistical planning for events.
  • Serve as primary staff during vacations and/or absence of executive director.
  • Oversee internship program and student chapters.

General Responsibilities

Regular consultation with executive director and board leadership giving input to and helping shape major events and initiatives. Work closely with executive director to follow up and help implement major projects, e.g. annual membership dinner. Help answer phones, open mail, and respond to inquiries. Occasional check-processing and light bookkeeping. Some flexibility of hours (including comp time). Must participate in some evening and weekend meetings and events.

Benefits

Starting salary is $38,000. Comp time and three weeks paid vacation. Excellent working conditions.
