DOL Scrubs Economic Analysis Showing Its Tip Pooling Rule Would Be Terrible for Workers

From the Economic Policy Institute (http://www.epi.org/):

This week it was reported that the Department of Labor (DOL) hid their economic analysis on the impact of proposed changes to rules affecting tipped workers. DOL’s revised rule would allow employers to “pool” their employees’ tips so they can be shared with nontipped workers, but—crucially—the rule does not actually require employers to redistribute the tips. DOL’s analysis reportedly showed that, under the proposed rule, tipped workers would lose billions to employers who simply pocket the pooled tips. “The fact that DOL conducted the analysis and hid it from the public is a brazen dereliction of duty,” said EPI’s Heidi Shierholz. “DOL should immediately withdraw its proposal and refocus on its mission of serving working people, not big business.” Read EPI’s statement »
