Join National Week of Action to Close Guantanamo—January 6-14

January 6, 2018 - January 14, 2018

From the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (http://www.nrcat.org):

Please join our National Week of Action to Close Guantanamo from January 6 – 14!  President Trump is about to put in place a plan for determining whether new detainees are sent to Guantanamo.  If he decides not to send detainees to Guantanamo (or sends very few), then whether it occurs under President Trump, or more likely the next President, the end of indefinite detention at Guantanamo is in sight.  If, on the otherhand, he “loads it up” with new prisoners, as he once promised to do, then an offshore prison for people that have never been tried for any crime, may become a permanent fixture of our democracy.

Guantanamo is a place where our government tortured prisoners, and it remains a place where most of the 41 people detained there have never been tried for, or even accused of, any crime. Please help us show the President that Guantanamo is unpopular by organizing a vigil, a rally, a film showing, a prayer service, or another event during the week of January 6 -14, 2018.

We can provide petitions, a suggested film, sample prayers and other materials for your event.  We can also help with expenses for a number of events – so please let us know if you need support for your event!

You can fill out this form to let us know that you’re interested in organizing an event. One of our staff will then contact you to provide any needed support or assistance.

Thank you for helping to close Guantanamo and end indefinite detention!
