PA Prison Society Speaker Series: Prof. Reuben Miller on Reentry—June 21, Philadelphia

June 21, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

From the Pennsylvania Prison Society (http://www.prisonsociety.org):

The Pennsylvania Prison Society is delighted to inaugurate our new, occasional, lunch-time speaker series. The Occasional Speaker Series will invite distinguish scholars and researchers to Philadelphia to discuss their work in criminal justice.

We will be kicking of the series Wednesday June 21st at the Defenders Association located at 1441 Sansom Street from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with a talk by Professor Reuben Miller on the ethnography of reentry.

An assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan, Professor Miller is concluding a residence at the Institute for Advance Studies at Princeton. Miller’s recent work, an ethnography of prisoner reentry in Chicago, Detroit, and New York, demonstrates how emergent techniques of state and third-party supervision have transformed citizenship, activism, community, and family life in the age of mass supervision.

This talk is provocative and informative for individuals returning from incarceration and individuals who support people returning from incarceration.  We could not be more excited to share his scholarship and insights with you.

The event is a brown bag lunch!

Please RSVP if you are interested in attending. For questions and to RSVP, please contact Franklin Mason at fmason@prisonsociety.org.
