Support Extending Temporary Protected Status for Haitians

From HIAS (https://www.hias.org/):

The Trump Administration has indicated it may put thousands of people at risk for deportation to Haiti. We urgently need your help to make sure that doesn’t happen.

After a devastating earthquake in 2010, over 50,000 Haitians who were in the United States at the time were given permission to remain here due to the disastrous conditions in their country. Now their legal status—and their lives—are at risk.

Go to https://secure2.convio.net/hias/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=221 to tell your elected officials that you support extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians.

In the seven years since the earthquake, Haiti has been plagued by additional natural disasters, political instability, and public health crises including what the Centers for Disease Control deemed the “the worst cholera outbreak in recent history.” During these seven years, Haitians in the United States have been helping build the American economy, pursuing education, raising families, and contributing to their communities in countless ways.

TPS for Haitians is scheduled to expire this July. If we let that happen, thousands risk deportation to near-certain poverty, hunger, and illness. Or, we can extend this important protection and allow them to continue their productive lives in safety in the United States.

Will you send a message to your elected officials today, in support of protection for Haitians in our communities?
