The Week in Gerrymandering: Funny Districts in VA, Northeast and Western PA

From the Committee of Seventy (https://www.seventy.org/):

When the Washington Post wrote about “crimes against geography” in 2014, U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan’s funky district, the 7th (“Goofy kicking Donald Duck”) was a prime example. But in the last week, Wilkes-Barre’s Citizens’ Voice and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette both editorialized about gerrymandering in their necks of the woods, and the P-G also ran an article about efforts to fight it in Western PA. Meanwhile, NPR had a story about district-rigging in Virginia. So this is a story that isn’t going away. Keep up to speed on the fight for fair districts at Fair Districts PA.

NOTE: While the 7th District is the “poster child” for crazily drawn districts (the number actually had to be included twice to make it clear), this map shows just how wildly drawn many of the districts are. Note particularly 11, 12, 15–actually, too many to point out…
