Johnson Amendment Repeal NOT in Tax Bill

From Americans United for Separation of Church and State (http://www.au.org):

Thousands of faith leaders raised their voices, and your actions helped save the Johnson Amendment, the provision of the tax code that protects the integrity of houses of worship by ensuring they do not endorse or oppose political candidates. The tax bill no longer contains language to repeal it.

Over 4,300 faith leaders signed our Faith Voices letter to Congress.

Thousands of faith leaders wrote and called their legislators.

Faith leaders wrote op-eds in their state and local papers in support of the Johnson Amendment.

We couldn’t have done it without you!

It’s important to celebrate your powerful advocacy, but we still need to be vigilant. Congress will next move on to passing spending bills and the House is already taking steps to try to weaken the Johnson Amendment in their bill. We will be sure to keep you updated on any new developments with the Johnson Amendment.

In the meantime, we’d like to say thank you again for raising your voice to protect the Johnson Amendment and keep our sacred spaces sacred.
