People’s Climate March—Helpful Information

From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):

In only a few weeks, on Saturday, April 29th, we’ll be speaking out together for our neighbors and the climate we share, forming a faith contingent at the People’s Climate March in Washington DC. Sister marches will amplify our message around the country! We’ll speak out for our neighbors and the climate we share as a unified faith contingent.

Save the date for Saturday, April 29!
People of faith will join students, workers, parents, and people on the front lines of climate change for a major climate justice mobilization in DC or at a sister march closer to home.

We’ll be telling our leaders and the world that we must address climate change as a moral issue that harms our neighbors and all Creation.

Our faith contingent will gather together on Saturday 4/29 from 11 am – 12:30 pm for musical offerings and reflections. We’ll gather across from the Capitol, probably somewhere along 3rd Street NW/SW south of Constitution (exact meet-up details coming soon at faith.peoplesclimate.org).

Religious headwear, clerical collars, stoles, banners, shirts, signs that proudly celebrate your religious community’s participation are all warmly encouraged! RSVP on Facebook and add your friends!

Our faith communities are planning dozens of gatherings and programs surrounding the People’s Climate March in DC as an opportunity to connect, pray, worship, sing, mourn, celebrate, and speak out.

Connect with the PCM hub for your faith group, and plan to join some of the dozen associated faith events around the March — or plan your own! To add your event to this list, email laura@ipldmv.org.

Find a place to stay

Our communities all have strong traditions of offering hospitality to strangers, and sacred communities and faith communities in the DC area are working through our local IPL to offer places to sleep for participants in our People’s Climate March faith contingent who are in need of hospitality.

If you are seeking a place to sleep in the days preceding or following the March, either in a congregational facility or in hosts’ homes, please view the various hospitality offers here and choose one or a few that best suit your needs. Then fill out this form.

For potential hosts: If your congregation’s facility or your home is within an hour’s drive or metro ride of downtown DC, and you can offer visitors a place to stay on the days before or after the March, particularly Friday night April 28, fill out this form.

We’re mindful that some Jewish marchers may have particular needs for hospitality on Friday evening and Saturday that accommodates their Shabbat practice.

Spread the word in your community

Find ways to connect your congregation with the People’s Climate March, using these resources or distributing custom bulletin inserts designed to be handed out with worship bulletins in congregations within driving distance of DC on the preceding weekend(s).

Thanks so much for all that you do!

P.S.  If you can’t join any of the marches in person we invite you to join our Virtual Climate March on social media.  You can find out how here.
