Share Your CHIP Story

From Families USA (http://www.familiesusa.org):

As state legislatures are coming back in session, we at Families USA are continuing to focus on making sure that policy makers understand how their proposals will affect health care consumers and patients.

Families USA is reaching out to you to SHARE YOUR STORY at http://familiesusa.org/share-your-story with how health care policies impact you and your family.

HOW HAS CHIP HELPED YOU KEEP YOUR CHILDREN HEALTHY?
Share your story about how the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is there when kids in your life need back-to-school check-ups, physical therapy, insulin, glasses, teeth cleanings, medications, and countless other treatments. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) calculated that funding CHIP for 10 years would actually save the government a ton of money – let’s continue to show Congress that renewing long-term funding for CHIP is in the best interest of our government and our children.

HOW WOULD A WORK REQUIREMENT FOR MEDICAID IMPACT YOU?
Share your story about how the Trump Administration’s decision to allow states to require people to work in order to qualify for Medicaid would affect you. How would a work requirement prevent you from getting the health care that you need? Just last week, Kentucky’s Medicaid waiver was approved, allowing the state to require new work documentation and allow 6 month lockouts from coverage for people who do not comply. Let’s show Congress that a work requirement is only going to take away health insurance from low-income people.

WHAT UNMET ORAL HEALTH NEEDS DO YOU HAVE?
Share your story about how a lack of access to dental care has meant things like untreated pain, delayed care, missed days of work and school, and more expensive treatments down the road. Or maybe your story is how gaining access to dental care has improved your overall health and livelihood. In 2017, California restored the state’s Medicaid adult dental benefit and Maryland made progress in expanding dental care access to Medicaid recipients. This year, more states are looking at oral health legislation. Let’s show Congress how access to dental care can be life changing.
