Share Your DACA Story

From the National Immigration Law Center (http://www.nilc.org):

Despite the political posturing in Washington, like President Trump’s assurance that DREAMers “shouldn’t be very worried,” the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is under attack and must be protected.

The Trump Administration has been sending mixed signals since January about whether or not it will protect this crucial program, but now, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly has told lawmakers that he won’t commit to defending it in the courts.

Meanwhile, President Trump says it isn’t up to Secretary Kelly or Attorney General Jeff Sessions: he alone has the power to save or ignore this program that makes it possible for young immigrants who’ve grown up in the U.S. to stay and work in the country they call home. And so far, he has yet to clarify his standing.

The fight to save DACA is only beginning, and we need your help to defend it: will you share your story of how DACA has helped you and your family today at http://action.nilc.org/page/s/share-your-story-about-how-daca-works?

While the White House tiptoes around the issue, Senators Graham and Durbin have introduced legislation that would create a path to citizenship for DREAMers. Although it’s not currently in the bill, some have discussed only allowing this bill to move in exchange for further militarization of our borders. This is not acceptable.

DACA works, and you can help us prove it. We’re collecting personal stories to deliver to legislators in Washington, urging them to stand up and fight for those who would be irreparably harmed by an end to this policy. All of us–immigrant and native born alike–benefit when those of us who grew up here are allowed to more fully contribute to our communities.

Let’s send Washington a message: submit your story and show them that DACA needs to be saved.

We’ll deliver your stories to key members of Congress by August 15, the 5th anniversary of DACA’s implementation.
