Act to Stop Anti-Immigrant Legislation in PA

From the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (http://www.paimmigrant.org):

Starting on the first day of the 2017-18 legislative session, Pennsylvania legislators began introducing bills targeting immigrant and refugee communities. Many state legislators believe that because both President Trump and Senator Toomey campaigned on the idea of punishing “Sanctuary Cities” in particular and immigrant/refugee communities in general, that they should follow suit and introduce and support punitive, discriminatory policies that target immigrant and refugee communities.

Now is the time to tell our elected representatives to #StoptheHate!

From now until March 13 is our opportunity to demand that our legislators publicly support immigrant and refugee communities and commit to stopping all anti-immigrant legislation. Download PICC’s advocacy strategy toolkit (http://paimmigrant.org/toolbox/stop-the-hate-2017/) and push legislators to take a welcoming stance today!

Know Your Rights!

This past week we have seen increased enforcement across the country. In this moment it is more important than ever that our communities understand their rights and are prepared to respond. Attend a local Know Your Rights session and download Know Your Rights materials, including Know Rights Cards in over 10 languages.

Remember:

  • You have the right to remain silent.
  • You have the right to speak with an attorney.
  • Do NOT open the door to law enforcement. Ask the officer to slide the valid warrant under the door.
  • Do NOT carry any fake documents, false ID’s, or foreign documents with you.
  • Memorize a trusted immigration lawyer’s phone number NOW.
  • Talk to your family and make a plan for your children in the case that you are detained.

IMPORTANT: Before you share that urgent alert about a raid or checkpoint, make sure you aren’t spreading misinformation and unintentionally causing more harm. Download and print this handy info sheet from DRUM: http://bit.ly/2l5cnuF
