Tell Your PA Legislators: It’s Time to Raise the Minimum Wage

From Raise the Wage PA (http://raisethewagepa.org/):

Raise the Wage PA participated in a press conference with Senator Art Haywood on August 17 calling for including increasing the minimum wage into the drawn out budget process in Harrisburg.

Contact your state legislators and ask them to support a substantial increase in the minimum wage as part of the budget process. Find contact information for your legislators at http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/index.cfm#address.

Raising the minimum wage will generate over $140 million for the budget with increased sales and income tax revenues as well as moving low wage workers currently on state funded Medicaid up to a higher income bracket and then on to Medicaid expansion, which is paid for almost entirely with  federal funds. This is a win for working families and a win for the state budget!

Also, the overall impact to the Department of Human Services budget on an increase to the minimum wage is $47.9 million dollars savings in state funds. See the chart.

We have been unable to secure a vote on minimum wage in Harrisburg for 11 years now. This is a chance to move this issue back onto the table. Please reach out to your elected officials.
