Urge Senator Eichelberger to Schedule Hearing on Racial Disparities in Education

From POWER (http://www.powerinterfaith.org/):

POWER has been working to increase the awareness of legislative leaders in Harrisburg about the widespread racial disparities in state education funding. For a long time, they would not even acknowledge that it was going on. But that is beginning to change. And it is changing because of you. Now we need your help again.

The PA Senate’s Education Committee agreed to schedule a full committee hearing on racial bias in Commonwealth Education funding when they are back in session this fall. Senator John Eichelberger, the Committee Chair, agreed to hold the Hearing when pressed by POWER’s Executive Director, Rev. Gregory Holston, as he was backed by hundreds of people praying and chanting outside of his office on June 21st of this year.

Senator Eichelberger merits our thanks for doing this but we also need to encourage him to take the next steps to make the hearing a reality by setting a specific date ASAP. We need your help to remind Senator Eichelberger of the promise he made to us!

Imagine how powerful it will be when each of you sends Senator John Eichelberger an email to thank him for taking this step AND encourage him to set a specific date for the hearing.

On June 21st, the State Capitol in Harrisburg thundered with the nearly 400 hundred faith-based leaders traveled to Harrisburg to give one very simple message: Education Apartheid Must End!

We heard from parents, students, clergy, movement leaders, and political allies. We are powerful when we are united in common purpose and effort. Click here to view photos of the Education Apartheid Day of Action.

Contact Senator John Eichelberger (jeichelberger@pasen.gov) today! We ask you to thank him, urge him to set the date for the hearing, and share with him why school funding justice matters to you.
