As a constituent who cares about the people in our community struggling with hunger, I urge you to support increased appropriations for two important anti-hunger programs -the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS).

SFPP provides essential funding for the purchase and distribution of nutritious food.  It is the Commonwealth’s most significant contribution to the effort of Pennsylvania’s food banks, food pantries and other providers of nutritional assistance to purchase and distribute food to Pennsylvanians with low-incomes. Please support a $21 million appropriation for SFPP in the 2017-2018 Pennsylvania state budget.

PASS makes it possible for charitable food providers secure a variety of surplus agricultural products produced in Pennsylvania. PASS helps feed Pennsylvanians at risk of hunger while facilitating donations of fresh produce and other products by Pennsylvania farmers. Please support inclusion of $5 million for PASS in the 2017-2018 Pennsylvania State Budget.

Thank you for your consideration.
