For Valentine’s Day, Pledge to Keep the Arctic Refuge Safe

From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

One month ago, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law a tax bill that includes a backdoor scheme to allow drilling in the Arctic Refuge, birthplace of the Porcupine Caribou Herd.

But take heart, because our plan to win it back from the hands of oil allies has begun.

First, we need to show the press and the public that we’re not accepting defeat. That’s why, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we’re asking you to pledge to keep the Arctic Refuge safe at http://act.alaskawild.org/sign/pledgerefuge.

Our goal is to collect 200,000 pledges – one for every member of the Porcupine Caribou Herd. This herd would be seriously affected if oil drilling takes place on its birthing grounds.

By raising the public profile of Arctic Refuge drilling, oil companies that seek to drill the Arctic Refuge will have to consider the impact on their reputations as well as backlash from their shareholders and investors. They will have to consider the unfavorable economics and geology that have already led many in the industry to question the expense and viability of Arctic Refuge drilling. And they will have to account for the fact that there are millions of consumers prepared to abandon companies that shun the environment, the impacts of climate change and the rights of Native people.

Help us show that Americans love the Arctic Refuge and are committed to keeping it safe.

We will fight in the courts, in the corporate boardrooms and of course back in Congress where, over time, we will seek to restore protections for this crown jewel of our National Wildlife Refuge System.

Pledge your commitment to the Refuge today!
