From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):

The Trump administration is proposing a massive expansion of offshore oil drilling, potentially opening 90% of our country’s outer continental shelf to oil exploration. Speak out now against this devastating proposal at http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/50836/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=24207.

For decades, repeated oil spills have decimated coastal economies, killed marine wildlife, and polluted the very source of life – our oceans and waterways. The BP Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 took 11 lives, sickened thousands more, and gushed millions of barrels of oil into the ocean for nearly three months. The oil and chemicals used to “clean up” the spill led to the deaths of thousands of birds, and hundreds of dolphins and sea turtles. Some species still affected today.  It took years for Gulf state coastal economies to recover.

Incredibly, the Trump administration has also weakened or eliminated safety regulations for offshore rigs, which were put in place specifically to prevent another Deepwater Horizon tragedy.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is taking comments on their Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing proposal until March 9.  Send your comment now.

Our oceans contain some of the last wilderness areas we have that are relatively untouched by humans. Let’s protect the sanctity of nature and our national treasures. Help put a stop to this dangerous proposal for the largest expansion of offshore oil drilling, ever.
