Support a Comprehensive Emergency Relief Package for Puerto Rico

From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):

Since Hurricane Maria hit, it has been appalling to see millions in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands in catastrophic distress: without power, and with rapidly dwindling supplies of water, food, and fuel.

The magnitude of the hurricane’s devastation is hard to wrap one’s head around, but it’s clear that Congress urgently needs to pass a comprehensive emergency relief package to help the 3.4 million Americans in desperate need.

Please, join in calling on our congressional leaders to pass a comprehensive emergency relief package for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Many supporters of the Union of Concerned Scientists have been asking whether this extreme Atlantic hurricane season is a sign of our changing climate. Our scientists’ bottom line is yes, our warming atmosphere and ocean have strengthened these storms.

This summer, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands have been hit by Irma and Maria, both storms made more powerful by climate change. For the longer term, we simply must reduce our global warming pollution. And we must spend on our infrastructure wisely so that communities will be able to better cope with stronger storms.

But right now, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands need swift, comprehensive emergency relief. You can help. Please call on your members of Congress to act now.
