Urge Congress to Pass the DREAM Act and Protect Immigrant Youth

posted in: Immigration, Uncategorized | 0

From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):

Please stand with Dreamers and uplift the urgency of passing a clean Dream Act of 2017! We are striving for 800,000 calls to Congress to honor the 800,000 immigrant youth in the DACA program. Last month, President Trump terminated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, turning our nation’s back on undocumented immigrant youth who are valued members of our communities. DACA’s termination puts nearly a million lives at risk, threatens the sanctity of family unity, and jeopardizes our communities and economy.

Congress needs to hear that their constituents overwhelmingly support Dreamers and want to see their Members of Congress co-sponsor the Dream Act immediately. Our national leaders need to hear from us—call your 2 Senators and 1 Representative! Here is where you can find contact information for PA Members of Congress:

Tell Congress to Pass a Clean Dream Act!

Sample script: I’m your constituent from [City, State]. I support dreamers and strongly oppose President Trump’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. I urge you to support a clean passage of the Dream Act of 2017 (S.1615/H.R.3440). My community welcomes our immigrant neighbors and calls on you to do everything in your power to protect undocumented youth.

After making your phone calls, here are more actions we invite you to take:

Organize a Dream Sabbath: A Dream Sabbath can be dedicated time during a regular weekly worship service to having immigrant youth share their stories and asking congregants to take action in support of the Dream Act, or it can be a vigil, meeting with your Senators and Representatives, etc. The Dream Sabbath toolkit can be found at here (PDF) and here (Word). Please make sure to put your event on this map: bit.ly/DreamSabbathMap by the end of October. For more resources, please visit interfaithimmigration.org/dream.

Amplify your voice on social media: Use the hashtag #DreamActNow. Check out United We Dream’s Digital Toolkit that contains graphics, sample tweets, videos (1 | 2 | 3), and much more. You can also download generic graphics and general social media language supporting the Dream Act. For more social media resources, check out FWD’s Digital Toolkit to challenge your community to take a video or stream a live video of themselves calling Congress, then ask five friends to do the same, posting on social media. You can also use OFA Graphics w/ Individual Target Phone Numbers.

We need to make our voices heard today and call on our elected leaders to do everything in their power to support a clean passage of The Dream Act of 2017 and protect immigrant youth!
